THE EIDERDOWN

THE EIDERDOWN

The Feather used in our paddings is 100% extra white dust removed hypoallergenic pure goose feather, cleaned and sterilized following the regulations in force. FILLING POWER of 780 CUIN. The "filling capacity" is obtained by an equipement LORCH  5577 CUIN. volume of an American ounce (28,35 g), in cubic inches (2,54 cm3).

Main Features:

It has no Rachis or Vane; It has got the shape of a real flock made of a central core (Calamus) from which originate many Barbs; this is the most valuable part of the plumage, it has the function of thermal protection and it sprouts up under wings on the belly and under the neck.

Lightness: It is an unequalled property even taken as a reference parameter. A feather flock weighs from 2 to 3 mg. To have 1 gr. of product, from 300 to 500 flocks are needed.

Softness: The items padded with feather offer softnes, pleasantness and a warm tactile sensation.

Filling or padding capacity: It is the capacity of a conventional mass of feather to fill a given volume at low pressure. For instance: 5-6 gr. of feather are needed to fill up a volume of 1 dm3. However wool and plyester need a weight two or three times as much as that of feather. It is related to the filling capacity of space, to voluminosity, to resilience and to the material capacity to maintain a large volume in case it is subjected to a pressure.

Resilience or elastic property: It is the feather capacity to get back the volume after a compression. As the filling capacity, it directly characterizes the quality of the padding material, with regard to the efficiency.

Compressibility: It is the feather capacity to tolerate considerable pressions without undergo irreversibile damages.

Non-conductivity: non-conductor means bad conductor of heat. As regard feathers, the non-conductivity shows the containment capacity of heat. From a physics point of view the heat containment depends on the good insulation from the outside, mainly possible thanks to air and the internal material used. Feathers are the best natural non-conductor because they are able to absorb and keep large volumes of air (disguised as countless rooms).

Hygroscopicity: It is the capacity to absorb humidity and to expel it on the outside. This allows to have many physiological advantages for the human body.
